Raiders name Stinchcomb starting center over troubled Robbins.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)

SAN JOSE, Calif. _ The last big piece of the Raiders' puzzle fell into place Monday when coach Bill Callahan tapped Matt Stinchcomb as the starting center.
"I want to do what's best for our team," Callahan said. "Matt Stinchcomb deserves that opportunity."
So ends _ for now _ an occasionally bizarre saga that began when longtime starter Barret Robbins left the team on the eve of Super Bowl XXXVII in January. Adam Treu started in Robbins' place the next day and seemed to have the inside track for the job during the off-season, as Robbins dealt with an injured knee and personal problems. At that point, Stinchcomb was not even on the radar at center.
