KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ The change was palpable, much like Kansas City's recent change in weather. The Chiefs returned to practice Monday after a three-day break a different bunch than the one that finished the preseason Thursday night in St. Louis.
Their numbers dwindled to 52, meaning all extraneous players were gone. The task at hand, beating San Diego in the season-opener, was no longer some distant goal but just six days off.
After a marathon training camp and five-game preseason, it wasn't difficult to tell the regular season had arrived.
