DALLAS _ The NFL tells us the preseason means something. That, of course, is the only way to justify the regular-season prices the NFL charges for this XFL caliber of football.

But Donovan McNabb didn't play in the preseason finale. Neither did Brett Favre and Ahman Green. The Rams also sat Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk. Do they sound like teams trying to win games?

NFL runner-up passing champion Rich Gannon threw just 33 passes in the preseason, NFL rushing champ Ricky Williams ran the ball 15 times and NFL receiving champ Marvin Harrison caught 10 passes. That workload barely qualifies as a good day in the regular season ...
