WHILE WE WERE GONE: Sequestered in rural Williamstown, Vt., for two vacation weeks, the closest run-in I had with high technology was spotting a satellite dish hanging off the side of a rotting shed. So let's play catch-up on the tech news front.
SATELLITE SCORES: Football fans will be cheering this fall for the newly enhanced, interactive NFL Sunday Ticket sports package DirecTV will offer subscribers.
To super-serve information junkies, four extra channels each Sunday will surround a cropped game screen with an L-shaped frame holding scores, stats and alerts of critical, "red zone" action in other games. Viewers will be able to jump channels to catch the excitement. (Sunday Ticket carries all NFL games except local blackouts.)
