If you have relatives or friends coming to visit this fall from overseas, they'll face tighter passport controls.
Starting on Oct. 1, citizens from 27 nations participating in a new visa-waiver program must present a machine-readable passport upon arrival at a port of entry. The passports have coded data on the photo page, and all participating countries are now issuing them.
