Visitors to face tighter passport controls.

If you have relatives or friends coming to visit this fall from overseas, they'll face tighter passport controls.
Starting on Oct. 1, citizens from 27 nations participating in a new visa-waiver program must present a machine-readable passport upon arrival at a port of entry. The passports have coded data on the photo page, and all participating countries are now issuing them.
Here are some tips from American Airlines about the new program:
