1. On Saturday, August 30, NPR'S WORLD OF OPERA will broadcast Houston Grand Opera's 2000 production of L'Elisir d'Amore, starring RAMON VARGAS as Nemorino and Ana Maria Martinez as Adina. Patrick Summers conducts. Check local listings for broadcast time.
2. Mezzo ELIZABETH BATTON, Nicklausse in Los Angeles Opera's Hoffmann in 2002-03, journeys to Asia for a run as Third Lady in the Macau International Music Festival's Die Zauberflote (October 9-12). She returns to the U.S. for Moses und Aron at the Metropolitan Opera (December), then takes on Hermia in Lyric Opera of Kansas City's A Midsummer Night's Dream (March 13-21, 2004).
3. Lyric Opera of Chicago's fourth annual STARS OF LYRIC OPERA AT GRANT PARK concert will take place at the park's Petrillo Music Shell on Saturday, September 6, at 7:30 P.M. Lyric's music director, ANDREW DAVIS, conducts the concert, which is scheduled to include appearances by BEN HEPPNER, ANGELIKA KIRCHSCHLAGER, RUTH ANN SWENSON, ISABEL BAYRAKDARIAN, MICHAEL SCHADE, ILDEBRANDO D'ARCANGELO and PETER MATTEI. Admission is free to the event, which last year drew an estimated 30,000 opera-lovers to Grant Park. For more information, check www.lyricopera.org/events.
