If your favorite health charity sports a rabbit logo this season, you'll know your contribution won't go toward funding experiments on animals.
The Washington, DC-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) unveiled its Humane Charity Seal of Approval in August 2002 as a way for organizations to show their support for cruelty-free research. In radio public service announcements, celebrities Ed Asner, Pamelyn Ferdin, Rue McClanahan and Noah Wyle talk about the importance of socially responsible giving.
About her involvement with PCRM, McClanahan, former star of The Golden Girls, told BN, "I always do what I can for PCRM, and this is an easy thing to do."
PCRM administers the Humane Charity Seal of Approval on behalf of the Council on Humane Giving, a coalition of physicians and animal-protection organizations. More than 200 charities have earned the seal. Following is a partial list of charities that have merited the rabbit logo. For a comprehensive list, visit humaneseal.org.
