LOS ANGELES _ His character, the nefarious Cigarette Smoking Man, may have gone in an inglorious blaze, but Canadian actor William B. Davis is alive and well.
A long-time performer and acting coach in his native land before he was discovered by "X-Files" creator Chris Carter and turned into the signature shadow villain of the 1990s, the classically trained Davis has been turning up in a wide variety of roles on American television.
On Oct. 26, he made a brief appearance as a priest in the Sci Fi Channel movie, "Clive Barker's Saint Sinner" _ but he died early on.
