Men and women who have been abused by their intimate partners are more likely to develop physical and mental health problems later in life, suggests a new study from the University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston.
Researchers analyzed more than 13,000 interviews with adults who participated in the National Violence Against Women Survey in 1995 and 1996. Twenty-nine percent of the women and 23 percent of the men said they experienced physical, sexual or psychological abuse from a partner sometime in their lives.
