Canadian fertilizer producer Agrium has begun a lawsuit against US oil and gas company Unocal over liabilities arising from Agrium's purchase of Unocal's fertilizer assets. According to Agrium, the company faces up to $40m in environmental liabilities arising from the purchase, of which it has so far paid $6.8m, $4m of which Unocal has accepted liability for, but for which no payment has as yet been received. One such issue is the effluent sewer from the Kenai, Alaska site.
