Helping out in schools is important. But before you just show up in the hallway, here are some tips from Shar McBee, author of "To Lead Is to Serve" (McBee, $14.95):
_Don't expect others to stop what they're doing to implement your ideas. If you want to offer advice, sign up for a planning committee.
_Suggest activities you are willing to execute yourself. Your ideas will get going if you are willing to offer your brawn as well as your brain.
_Don't just drop by the school. Attend an orientation _ or at least call ahead _ to find out what is needed and when.
