MADISON, WI--Shipments of microturbines--high--speed, gas-fired generators in the 30 to 300 kilowatt size range-grew 15% in 2001 to approximately 1400 units, according to a study by Primen, an energy market intelligence company and EPRI subsidiary based in Madison, WI, and Boulder, CO.
Despite the increase, the shipments to distributors were far below beginning-of-the-year forecasts by manufacturers and industry analysts, says Primen. These projections called for shipments to reach 3500 to 5500 units in 2001, a growth rate that would have matched the previous year's 400% increase.
