Midwest utilities, attracted by a successful track record and looking for a stable marketplace, are lining up to join the growing PJM West power grid operated by Mid-Atlantic grid operator, PJM Interconnection LLC.
Commonwealth Edison, Illinois Power, and Dayton Power & Light utilities recently announced their intention to join American Electric Power, Allegheny Energy Inc., and others in the PJM West grid.
The impetus to join a regional transmission organization (RTO) stems from a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) order intended to organize utilities under a handful of such organizations nationwide.
The utilities are opting for the established PJM system over the relatively new Midwest Independent System Operator (Midwest ISO), which operates a competing power ...
