SAN ANTONIO -- Breast cancer patients who opt for mastectomy tend to be older and are more like[y to have had prior breast biopsy than those who choose breast-conserving therapy Dr. Valerie L. Staradub said at a breast cancer symposium sponsored by the San Antonio Cancer Institute.
This observation suggests that a substantial number of women who've undergone breast biopsy consider it a sufficiently unpleasant experience that they would rather get a mastectomy than risk going through the biopsy process again, said Dr. Staradub of Northwestern University, Chicago.
