LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. -- Vasopressin appears to significantly reduce blood loss during vaginal hysterectomy, according to the results of two randomized, prospective studies presented at the annual meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.
In an analysis of 117 women, those who received vasopressin had an estimated average blood loss of 312 cc, compared with 446 cc in women who received saline, said Dr. Rebecca Rogers of the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

In this series, the mean estimated blood loss was 179 cc in the vasopressin group vs. 371 cc in the women who received saline, Dr. Paul Speer of Louisiana State University, Shreveport, reported in a poster presentation.
