LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. -- The tension-free vaginal tape and laparoscopic Burch procedures to correct urinary incontinence have comparable 1-year success and complication rates, according to results of a small retrospective study.
The overall objective cure rates at 1 year for tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) and laparoscopic Burch were 92% and 88%, respectively, Dr. Brett Vassallo reported at the annual meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.
Also, there were no significant differences in time to resumption of normal voiding or in prolonged persistent irritative bladder symptoms such as urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence, said Dr. Vassallo of the Seton Center in Cincinnati.
