Antiplatelet drugs, largely low-dose aspirin, have small to moderate benefits when used for the prevention of preeclampsia, reported Dr. Lelia Duley of the Institute of Health Sciences, Oxford, England, and her associates.
The researchers analyzed data from 39 randomized trials involving 30,563 women. In most of the studies, aspirin alone--in doses of less than 75 mg/day--was compared with placebo. Other women used various combinations of antiplatelet drugs and placebo (BMJ 322[7282]:329-33, 2001).
