'Tried-and-True' Therapies for Preterm Labor Don't Measure Up.
Traditional "tried-and-true" ancillary therapies for preterm labor--hydration and bedrest--actually turn out to be tried-and-false, speakers said at the conference.
Take intravenous hydration, for example. It's expensive. The true cost-- not hospital charges--works out to about $500 per liter. And it has absolutely no effect on clinical outcomes, said Dr. Debra Guinn of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
