NEW YORK _ The weather on Sunday was almost as dreary as the opponent, but none of that mattered to the Phillies. After a painfully disappointing first month of the season, they have taken on the fighting personality of manager Larry Bowa.
With six players contributing two or more hits to a 15-hit barrage, the Phillies defeated the New York Mets, 9-5, to sweep their three-game series at soggy Shea Stadium.
It was the fourth consecutive win and 10th in the last 11 games for the Phils, who are 69-66. That's a record that seemed highly unlikely after the team opened with a 9-19 mark.
