DARLINGTON, S.C. _ Ryan Newman will never grow tired of second-place finishes, but that doesn't mean he can't express a little frustration.
Newman, a rookie, claimed his third runner-up finish, trailing Jeff Gordon in Sunday's Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
It was Newman's 11th top-five in 25 starts this year _ the most of any driver. Five did not finishes have him 11th in points.
"It's better to finish second then third, I guess," Newman said. "We're working on it. The guys have done an awesome job in preparation and everything.
"I think that's six wins for (Gordon) here and to finish second to a guy like that is special to me. ...
