CHARLOTTE, N.C. _ It's been eight months full of firsts for Carolina Panthers coach John Fox, but Sunday's might have been the most difficult.
In his first stint as a head coach, Fox had to release 14 players as the Panthers got to the National Football League's 53-player limit.
"You're dealing with everybody, not just one side of the ball," said Fox, who previously was defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. "As a head coach, you're dealing with everybody, so you build a closer relationship with everybody. It makes it that much more difficult."
Leander Jordan, a third-round draft pick in 2000, DeRon Jenkins, who came to camp as a starting cornerback and special teams regulars Casey Crawford and Kory Minor highlighted the list.
