FORT WORTH, Texas _ The clause was buried deep in the details of the agreement, well behind the luxury tax, revenue sharing, contraction, minimum salaries, the amateur draft and drug testing.
Going through the new Collective Bargaining Agreement on Friday afternoon, one almost missed it and had to read it twice before believing that this was really part of the deal.
The point read as follows:
"Draft pick compensation for losing Type A and Type B free agents is eliminated."
What?
"Yeah," Dan O'Brien, the Rangers assistant general manager, said Friday. "I haven't read the agreement, but we had heard that might be the case. That's not really surprising."
Wait a minute.
