Aug. 30--If you lose the sodas, you could lose the money.
Capistrano Unified School District is about to boldly go into the school year without the usual junk -- Twinkies, cupcakes, candy and carbonated drinks -- that fills its vending machines, and the usual revenue provided by products from corporations like Pepsi and Coke.
Instead, the district hopes healthier food -- granola, juice and water -- will become more popular than homework. The district hopes students won't head to the local market before (or during) school to quench their soda or cupcake cravings.
