Marcelo Alvarez is a tenor to be watched--vocally gifted, theatrically intense, handsome, Latin, opinionated, ambitious and business-oriented to boot. Born in Cordoba, Argentina, some 400 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, Alvarez did not leave his hometown--or see an opera--until the age of thirty. At that point, he left behind his job selling furniture for what has become, in a surprisingly short time, a blooming international career.
