Ingesting large amounts of grapes or raisins may cause kidney failure in dogs, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Poison Control Center in Urbana, Illinois.
Earlier this year, the center announced that it was investigating the toxic effects of the popular fruits after it received reports that dogs had died after eating large amounts of one or the other. Although the exact role of grapes or raisins in these cases is unclear, the center urges people whose pets may have ingested significant quantities of either fruit to contact its veterinary toxicologists at 888.426.4435.
