Let's talk turkey--or tryptophan, to be more accurate. It's become common knowledge at this point that tryptophan, the amino acid found in turkey (and also cottage cheese, milk, meat and bananas) is one of the reasons we feel sleepy after the Thanksgiving meal, because it is a natural sleeping aid. But a new study, published in Neuropsychopharmacology suggests that tryptophan may also make people more confident. The study involved 50 men and 48 women split into two groups: one group was given 3 grams of tryptophan per day, while the other group took a placebo.
