Mount Holyoke College is a small women's liberal arts college located in South Hadley, MA, with an enrollment of about 2,000 students. Mount Holyoke was the first of the Seven Sisters - the female equivalent of the formerly all-male Ivy League. A leader in integrating technology throughout academic and extracurricular life, Yahoo! ranked Mount Holyoke 19th in its year 2000 special report on the 100 most wired colleges. It's no wonder that the facilities group at Mount Holyoke was looking for a way to get their campus monitoring online.
Getting online was not the only challenge the facilities group faced, however. After many years of being hampered by lack of capability and flexibility in the proprietary controls systems used campus-wide, Mount Holyoke was ready for a change that would allow the facilities group to control their own destiny.
BACNET TO THE FOREFRONT
Just over a year ago, after much industry research and several conversations with area consultants, Russell Boudreau and the Mount Holyoke College Facilities group took a leap of faith and made 100% BACnet compatibility a prerequisite for all hvac control systems specified for the Mount Holyoke campus. These efforts brought praise from Boudreau, who commented, "We're really pleased with the service from Yankee Tech. That's a real plus. We look forward to a long relationship with them."
The capability and features of WebCTRL, not the least of which is its native BACnet communication, have made WebCTRL the preferred controls product at Mount Holyoke. In addition, because WebCTRL is a Web-based product, Mount Holyoke facilities personnel are now able to monitor these four buildings from any Internet browser.
Says Boudreau, "It's nice to be able to just go to a browser and ...
