Dec. 20--Las Animas County is in the running for a $1.2 billion coal-fired power plant proposed by Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, County Commissioner Mark Ritz said Tuesday.
Until now, the only specific site that has been mentioned for the plant is near the town of Las Animas in Bent County. Tri-State officials have been careful to say the site hasn't been selected yet.
But Ritz said Las Animas County has been "working very diligently" with Tri-State Generation in hopes of locating the plant in the eastern part of the county.
