Unlike Europe, the United States is a tough market for scooters. With our burgeoning economy, wide-open spaces, no-tiered licensing, large population centers in colder climes and insurance-company-induced fear of anything that can hurt us, most Americans out of their teens will opt for a small car before they think of a scooter to meet their short-hop transportation needs. And no self-respecting motorcyclist, or wannabe motorcyclist, would consider a scooter before a small motorcycle, if for no other reason than their typical lack of stability, performance and luggage space.
