This is a very welcome book both for its quality and its subject matter.
Though significant forces in America's development, English, Scottish and Welsh immigrants are relatively rarely treated in historical studies. In his introduction, William Van Vugt partly attributes historians' relative lack of interest in the subject to the comparatively meagre historical sources that are available.
