OWINGS MILLS, Md._The final syllable of Ray Lewis' name had barely been uttered when Art Modell, owner of the Baltimore Ravens, began shaking his white-thatched head.
"Don't even ask," warned Modell, 75, as he leaned back in a golf cart at the edge of his practice field, one leg propped comfortably on the steering wheel.
Among NFL executives, Modell has been one of the leading press charmers and weaver of football anecdotes for years. But on the subject of Ray Lewis, there will be no comment.
Count yourself fortunate if Modell so much as tells you whether Lewis salted his eggs that morning. The wagons are circled here around the middle linebacker who had spent a few days in early February draped in an orange jailhouse jumpsuit instead of an AFC Pro Bowl uniform.
