Apr. 28--In the recreational end of the auto rental industry, chaos is the norm for consumers.
From the time families disembark from the airport shuttle bus, parents enter a state of sensory overload. One parent needs to stand in line at the rental counter and prepare to make a multitude of decisions, while the other guards the luggage and tries to keep an eye on two kids running in and out of the automatic doors.
Just as fast-food restaurants added play equipment and gas stations evolved into mini-markets, auto rental centers are beginning to understand -- and accommodate -- their customers' greater needs.
