Apr. 28--SHARES JUMP AS PROFITS RISE SHARPLY: Shares of MasTec (MTZ) rose sharply Thursday after the company said its first-quarter profits more than doubled. MasTec said it earned 38 cents per share, beating analysts' estimates of 32 cents. The stock jumped $7.44 to $84. MasTec, the Miami company that lays cable and fiber optic lines for telecommunications, cable television and Internet systems, continued on its strategy of cutting costs and building strategic ties with big-name companies.
