Apr. 27--The Diageo corporate board is expected to vote today to move Burger King's world headquarters to Coral Gables, ending a two-year quest to replace its South Miami-Dade campus.

Several parties close to the deal said Diageo, parent company of Burger King, has shaken hands with the city and a developer to build a 12-story office tower for the fast-food chain in the 2500 block of Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

The first part of that deal was set in motion Wednesday when the Coral Gables Commission unanimously gave preliminary approval to a zoning change to exempt the project's developer, Hines Interests, from undergoing a lengthy impact review for its proposed 300,000-square-foot high-rise.
