Apr. 26--Propelled upward by a sea of buoyant earnings reports, Wall Street staged a powerful rally Tuesday, with the Nasdaq Composite Index scoring the second-largest point gain in its history.
The Nasdaq, which is heavily weighted toward the fast-growing technology sector, rocketed upward by 228.75 points, or 6.5 percent, to close at 3,711.23.
The Dow Jones industrial average, which is more skewed toward old-line service and manufacturing firms, also mounted a broad advance, gaining 218.72 points to close at 11,124.82, up 2 percent.
