Jul. 27--KAUKAUNA, Wis.--About 25 contracted workers at a Kaukauna photo lab have been laid off without notice.

The employees, who retouched photo negatives for five to nearly 25 years for Pechman Professional Imaging, 106 E. Second St., were told over they phone they no longer had their jobs, said Denise Knott, an employee for 20 years who was told this week.

Company executives did not return phone calls.

"(The company is) going digital, using computers now," Knott said. "They knew months ago. It was not something that happens in one day. They had to buy machines and train people."
