Aug. 13--It's no longer surprising to find Christmas displays pop up long before Thanksgiving. But at some stores, Halloween candy is now part of the season-stretching act, appearing on shelves three months before trick-or-treaters will hit the streets.

At the Phar-Mor store on Union Deposit Road in Lower Paxton Twp., multipack candies from Hershey Foods Corp., Nestle SA and M&M Mars Inc. fill boxes decorated with black cats, ghosts and gnarled trees.

The Rite Aid store off Cumberland Parkway in Upper Allen Twp. went even further than Phar-Mor, setting up black and orange scarecrows that loom over an aisle of candies earmarked for …
