Formation of alliance reveals rift between vendor factions

* Right on the heels of the newly amended Federal Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, which becomes effective the middle of next month, six small needlestick-safety manufacturers have banded together to promote needlestick safety in the healthcare workplace.

The National Alliance for the Primary Prevention of Sharps Injuries (NAPPSI), as its name implies, is calling for primary prevention in needlestick safety, meaning it aims to eliminate or reduce the use of sharps in the workplace. Touting a "No needle, no risk" theme, the alliance counts among its members manufacturers of needleless injectors, lasers and catheter securement devices.
