Nov. 23--CANTON, N.Y. -- Four St. Lawrence County towns' opposition to the state's land deal with International Paper Co. gained support Monday from the county.
County legislators at Monday's Finance Committee meeting voted 13-0 to support the towns that vetoed their acreage being included in the largest land conservation agreement in state history. The county's action supports the towns of Colton, Hopkinton, Parishville and Piercefield, all of which oppose the state spending up to $25 million in conservation easements to protect nearly 257,425...
