Nov. 24--Members of a special state task force said Tuesday that they have already decided New Jersey needs to hold a constitutional convention to reform property taxes.
But settling on the details of such a momentous meeting remains a daunting job for the Property Tax Convention Task Force, which faces a Dec. 31 deadline for a plan to open up the New Jersey Constitution for the first time since 1966.
After months of hearing testimony, the 15-member task force met Tuesday at Rutgers University in New Brunswick to discuss publicly some of the tough decisions it will have to make as the state confronts the property tax crisis. Members of the committee acknowledge that they are in pretty sticky territory.
