First a penalty flag to the eyeball of the Cleveland Browns. Now one to the gut of the New York Giants.
There's a reason why Jeff Triplette, in nine years as an NFL referee, has never been called on to officiate a Super Bowl or a conference championship game. This is one whistle-blower who doesn't deserve the plaudits of a grateful nation.
You can't say that Triplette's decision to flag linebacker Carlos Emmons for ``roughing the quarterback'' led directly to the Giants' 14-10 defeat by Atlanta on Sunday.
But it certainly made it a lot easier. Unconscionably easier.
It was a penalty that should never have been called. It was one of those points in a game...
