Nov. 23--Let parents give thanks this holiday gift season to a relatively new and growing genre of computer games. These games, adventures that are often investigative in nature, require more brains and far less of the virtual but brutally vicious brawn that has become emblematic of PC games.

More and more, these games are based on TV series, as well as movies and famed detective characters.

Law & Order, by Legacy Interactive, has a new offering called Justice is Served. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, from Ubisoft, has come out with Dark Motives. A Sherlock Holmes case, also from Ubisoft, is called Secret of the Silver Earring.
