Nov. 22--On the surface, Wendy Maldonado seemed to have New York City by the tail.
In early 2002, the 30-year-old freshly minted MBA landed a $100,000-a-year job with consultants Booz Allen & Hamilton. Like many of her peers, she worked and played hard in the city. Money was no object as she enjoyed museums, shopping and nights out with friends.
"My mind-set was that I felt like I worked hard so I deserved a night out," she said, adding that she paid little attention to what she was spending.
