Nov. 22--WASHINGTON -- In a tight budget year, spending on projects with a big impact on Florida -- from the Everglades to NASA -- appeared to survive at current levels, or even get a slight boost, in the $388 billion spending bill for 2005 approved by Congress Saturday.
But there were disappointments in the bill. Broward County's request for beach restoration was cut in half, to $1.25 million, and a few parts of the massive Everglades restoration were left out of this budget.
As expected, the budget included $64 million from the Interior Department for the Everglades, and $8 million for a new water system in Everglades National Park.
