Nov. 22--My column last week about being the victim of an attempted credit card fraud triggered lots of e-mail from readers. Many people have suffered much worse than I did.
I have become extra-vigilant since someone tried to charge $500 on my credit card number at a Payless Shoe Source. On the eve of the holiday shopping season, it behooves all of us to guard our identities and financial information with extra vigilance.
One way to do that is to pull a copy of your credit reports, to check for suspicious activity. But that can get kind of costly.
Good news: The promise of free annual credit reports is closer.
