Nov. 20--Hollywood may depend on technology to produce its sci-fi, animated and fantasy blockbusters, but it's racing against another technology that threatens to drain profits from those movies: high-speed Internet connections.

Download speeds are getting faster each year -- good news for consumers, but bad news for movie studios. The faster a connection, the more tempting it is for people to download a movie for free.

Hoping to nip that temptation before it flowers into a full-blown fad, the studios filed suit this week against about 200 people across the country who were swapping copyrighted films such as "Troy," "Spider-Man 2" and "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen."

The tactic was taken straight from the recording industry's playbook, which began suing song-swappers more than a year ago. But...
