Nov. 20--North Carolina's slowly improving economy took a breather in October, with the state's unemployment rate remaining unchanged at 4.8 percent from September, the N.C. Employment Security Commission reported yesterday.
The state's jobless rate was below the national rate, which was 5.5 percent, for the eighth consecutive month.
There's a sense among many economists that the state's economy is gaining momentum. But they cautioned about reading too much into the state's jobless rate being below 5 percent -- the symbolic figure for full employment -- for two months in a row.
