NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Investigators say that the anti-epilepsy drug vigabatrin showed promise for the treatment of some drug addicts durng a small clinical trial at a Mexican clinic.

Dr. Jonathan Brodie of the New York University School of Medicine and Steven Dewey of the Brookhaven National Laboratory gave vigabatrin or gamma-vinyl GABA (GVG) to 30 people with long addictions to cocaine, methamphetamine or both. They found 18 of the volunteers remained with the study with 16 getting completely off drugs for at least four weeks while two…
