Nov. 19--American Airlines unveiled lower domestic fares with fewer restrictions in the Miami market Thursday, as it tries to reel passengers back from the discount mecca of Fort Lauderdale.
The airline is reducing last-minute fares to all 38 U.S. and Canadian markets served by American and American Eagle from Miami, and eliminating Saturday night stay requirements.
The move is geared to boost passenger traffic at Miami International Airport, which has increasingly lost travelers to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the fastest-growing major airport in the nation and a niche for low-cost carriers.
"We are doing this because we are losing business from Miami to Fort Lauderdale," said Scott Nason, American's vice president of revenue management. "And we want that business back here."
