Although the goal of the National Safety Council's proposed voluntary ergonomics standard is similar to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's rule, the implementation process differs greatly.

The implementation of the NSC proposal will require employers to establish priorities for prevention activities. The choice of the priorities and how an employer implements the proposed standard depend on the progress a company has made in addressing workplace factors and on the extent of its current problems, the NSC committee said.
